About Me
Hello, my friend. I am Nikhila. I am a skilled, efficient and passionate Math tutor and Subject Matter Expert. I have always loved Math as well as teaching. I love breaking down concepts that seem difficult and then explaining them with clarity. I believe anyone can learn Math provided they have an open mind. I wish to use this platform to build a little world where we can appreciate the beauty of Math and I can put to use the knowledge that I have gained.
Do you know what I think is the biggest problem with how Math is taught or learnt? That the why’s are not considered as important as the how’s.
We need to remind ourselves that Math isn’t just about cancelling common terms from the numerator and the denominator, and finding the mysterious \(x\)’s (pun intended)! We take a lot of things for granted while learning, which is one reason why we never have the complete picture with us. Thus, it is no wonder that kids don’t enjoy learning Math, and moreover scared of it. Because they believe that failing to reach the correct answer means a failure in learning Math. And that is not true. In fact, the final answer is the least important thing in my humble opinion. Also, quite often we are told that some things are just as they are and will be dealt in higher grades, and you are asked to follow whatever is mentioned by the teacher. But, why does the method that the teacher mentioned work? Is it not important to understand the reasons there? Is that not Math? When did Math become a river of computations? This is something that bothers me. While I understand that there needs to be an established curriculum for the sake for uniformity, we cannot ignore the fact that we need to look at better ways to deal with it.
Now, I admit that I own a conventional exam-oriented website that focuses on the NCERT textbook and that is quite a contradiction to the lecture I just gave in the above lines. But, let’s face it. This is what our curriculum would look like for a few more years in the least. So, I thought why not offer a little help here when this is what is going to stay for the now. I decided I will build a website that has the conventional methods, but clubbed with a friendlier and meaningful approach to it so that this will be a place for the learner to understand not just the how’s, but also the why’s. I want you to look at solutions that speak to you, if that makes any sense. I wish to provide details that are most often missed and ignored, but are extremely crucial in understanding concepts.
A little about my background!
I am a Postgraduate in Mathematics, who has 5 years of work experience. I have worked as a Guest Faculty at a reputed University. I have also worked as a Lead in Content Development at a leading ed-tech in India. I am currently exploring freelance opportunities and attempting to upgrade my skill set.
